West Virginia Field Trip -- October 18, 2012
There are things I want you to check out before we go on our trip.
We will be covering multiple stories including the environment, the election, the differences between rural and urban life, diversity or lack thereof, etc.
Please look at the following so you will have an idea of some of the issues.
This reporter has been following the coal industry and reporting correctly and pretty much alone for a very long time. Dig through some of his posts.
Click here for movie about fracking (hydrofracking). This is a huge issue in NY State where the opposition is organizing. In West Virginia, however, the industry has already bought many leases. We will need to ask the students how they feel about fracking while in Richwood.
Check out this special place we are going to visit. Ms. Greer grew up here and we are going to explore some of the most beautiful forest any where in the USA.
You are going to need to be ready to leave at 7:00 a.m. (earlier if I can talk you guys into it. We need to be at The Greenbrier for a 1:30 p.m. tour and it will take us up to five hours to get there.
We are going in a van. We will be rotating seats.
You will need a coat and some kind of rain slicker. Plus closed-toed shoes for hiking.
We are invited to a church luncheon on Sunday at our host's church. I think we can get by with nice pants.
We need to throw a quick movie together explaining our school to the students we will meet with at Richwood High School. Introduce yourselves and talk a little about our school . . . we don't win football games, we suffer from lack of school spirit, whatever . . . something that will help those kids get to know us.
We will shoot video quickly tomorrow with each of you featured.
This is going to be awesome.
